Amtrak Names New Executive VP

Amtrak has named Roger Harris as executive vice president and chief marketing and commercial officer effective April 12.

He will succeed Tim Griffin, who is retiring on that date.

In a news release, Amtrak said Harris will be responsible for corporate marketing, sales distribution, network and consist planning, market research, pricing and revenue management.

He also will oversee the Northeast Corridor, state-supported and long-distance service lines.

Harris joined Amtrak in January as Vice president of long-distance service business line.

His more than 25 years in the transportation industry included serving as vice president of revenue, distribution and alliances for Aeromexico, and positions at Delta Air Lines, Sun Country Airlines, GMAC Financial Services, Northwest/KLM Airlines and Chrysler.

Amtrak Taking Bids for Social Media Residency Program

Amtrak is launching another social media residency program in which successful applicants will share their experienced of riding the train.

Known as #AmtrakTakeMeThere, the carrier said in a news release that the program seeks to “showcases the diversity of Amtrak passengers and their unique train travel experiences.”

Amtrak’s Chief Marketing Officer Tim Griffin said that Amtrak is seeking travelers to share their experiences.

In particular, Amtrak wants social media content leaders “whose creativity and energy allows them to connect with their followers on a deeper level.”

Applicants will be evaluated on their writing, photography and videography skills. They also must demonstrate social community engagement and online personality.

In a news release, Amtrak said applications making it past an initial screening process will be considered based on the degree to which the applicant will be an effective representative of the Amtrak brand, as well as related creative considerations to be determined by a panel of judges.

Interested participants can fill out the short application on the #AmtrakTakeMeThere webpage. Applications will be available through Jan. 31.

Winners are expected to be announced in early Spring 2019.
