College Move-in Days to Disrupt Thruways

Amtrak Thruway bus service in San Luis Obispo, California, will be affected by road closures on Sept. 13 and 14 as students at Cal Poly University return to campus.

In a service advisory, Amtrak said some Thruway buses on those days will be unable to reach the Cal Poly stop or PAC Loop between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. when students will be moving into the school’s residence halls.

Affected on Sept. 13 will be buses 4010, 4015, 4761, 4765, 4770, 4784, 4785, 4794, 6238 and 6241. Affected on Sept. 14 will be Thruway Buses 4010, 4015, 4761, 4765, 4784, 4794, 6238 and 6241.

Amtrak said all Thruway service will run normally at the San Luis Obispo station stop on both days.

New Operator Coming to Thruway Route

Starting July 5, Amtrak Thruway service between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe will be operated by El Dorado Transit.

The daily bus service will add a new stop at Cameron Park/Cambridge Road. It will continue to serve Placerville, the South Lake Tahoe Y and the Stateline Transit Centers. The Stateline Kingsbury stop is being discontinued.

Passengers should look for a Capitol Corridor and Amtrak logo on the side of the El Dorado Transit bus.

New LA-Vegas Thruway Route Launched

Amtrak has established a new daily Thruway route linking Los Angeles with Las Vegas.

The bus route connects with Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner service and operates twice daily.

Intermediate stops are made at San Bernardino, Victorville, and Barstow, as well as two stops in Las Vegas.

Passengers are guaranteed a connection to Surfliner trains. However, Thruway passengers can buy bus tickets without a train segment if they so choose.

LA-Vegas Thruway Service Modified

Amtrak has modified its Thruway bus service between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

The buses are now following as outlined below.

A new service operated by Alvand Transportation will travel between Los Angeles and Las Vegas daily, connecting to Pacific Surfliner Trains 579, 580, 763, 768, 777 and 796.

Buses will make intermediate stops at San Bernardino, Victorville and Barstow.

2 California Thruway Bus Stops Changing

March 27, 2021

Effective March 29, the Amtrak thruway bus stops for Petaluma and Vallejo in California will change.

The Vallejo stop will move from the Curtola Park-n-Ride to the Vallejo Transit Center at 311 Sacramento Street,

The Petaluma stop will move from the library to the Copeland Transit Mall, sharing space with Golden Gate Transit. The location is 19 Copeland Street.

Track Work to Disrupt San Joaquins

September 2, 2020

Track work will disrupt operations of some San Joaquin trains between Sept. 13 and 14, Amtrak said in a service advisory.

During that period Trains 701, 702, 703, 704, 714 and 717 and their Thruway Bus connections are canceled.

Trains 712 and 716 will terminate at Corcoran, California on Sept 13 with no alternate service being provided at Wasco.

Amtrak Thruway Buses 4012 and 4016 will provide alternate transportation between Corcoran and Bakersfield.

Train 718 will terminate at Corcoran on Sept. with Amtrak Thruway Bus 4018 originating in Corcoran and providing alternate transportation between Corcoran and Bakersfield. However, that bus will not provide service to Wasco.

Train 711 will originate at Corcoran on Sept. 14. Bus 4011 will provide alternate transportation between Bakersfield and Corcoran but will not serve Wasco.

Bus 4011 will connect with Bus 5811, which will depart all station stops from San Diego to Bakersfield 15 minutes earlier than normally scheduled.

Train 713 will originate at Corcoran on Sep. 14. Thruway Bus 4013 will provide alternate transportation between Bakersfield and Corcoran except at Wasco.

Train 719 will at Corcoran on Sept. 13 with Bus 4019 providing alternate transportation between Bakersfield and Corcoran except for Wasco.

Buses 4011, 4012, 4013, 4016, 4018 and 4019 will not provide checked baggage service between Corcoran and Bakersfield.

Thruway Route Returns to San Francisco

August 15, 2020

Amtrak Thruway bus service between San Francisco and Emeryville, California, has resumed although on a reduced schedule.

The buses connect in Emeryville with Amtrak’s San Joaquins, California Zephyr, Coast Starlight and some Capitol Corridor trains.

In a service advisory, Amtrak said the buses will only stop at the San Francisco Salesforce Plaza and Emeryville stations. Buses will not stop at the Oakland Jack London station.

Seating capacity is limited in order to maintain social distancing.

San Joaquin Thruway Bus Routes Changed

August 1, 2020

Amtrak has announced that effective Aug. 1 several changes will occur in the operation of three San Joaquin Thruway bus routes.

Route 12 will see certain service suspensions and changes.

Buses 3410 and 3415 are suspended and will no longer serve Victorville, Little Rock, Palmdale, Lancaster, Mojave and Tehachapi bus stops.

The Alvand Transportation Buses 5612 and 5619 will begin serving Tehachapi, Mojave, Barstow Train Station, Barstow Bus Stop, Las Vegas RTC Strip Terminal and Las Vegas Greyhound Bus Stop.

On Route 18, Buses 6703, 6704, 6710 and 6715 are suspended and will no longer serve Visalia and Goshen Junction bus stops

On Route 19, Buses 5410 and 5417 will no longer serve Hemet, Sun City/Menifee, Perris and Moreno Valley bus stops.

Buses 5402, 5412, 5415 and 5419 will no longer serve Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Palm Springs Airport and Cabazon bus stops.

Amtrak said alternate Pacific Surfliner train and bus service remains available to Coachella Valley stops and passengers are advised to check Amtrak.com for the latest availability.

San Joaquin Thruway Route to Change

July 18, 2020

On Aug. 1, there will be changes made in the route of Amtrak San Joaquins Route 19 Thruway service.

Certain schedules and stops are being suspended although the Amtrak service advisory did not say for how long.

Buses 5410 and 5417 will no longer serve the Hemet, Sun City/Menifee, Perris and Moreno Valley bus stops.

Buses 5402, 5412, 5415 and 5419 will no longer serve Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Palm Springs Airport and Cabazon bus stops.

Alternate Pacific Surfliner train and bus service remains available to the above Coachella Valley stops. Passengers are advised to check Amtrak.com for the latest availability.

Changes Made in Thruway Services

June 30, 2020

Starting July 1 Amtrak will make changes to some San Joaquins Thruway service.

Buses 5710, 5712 and 5719 will no longer serve Long Beach and San Pedro bus stops.

On the same date Buses 5910, 5912, 5915 and 5919 will no longer serve Torrance, El Segundo, Westchester, Westwood (UCLA) and Van Nuys bus stops.

However, a new stop has been added at Los Angeles Union Station.

In a related development, Amtrak has relocated the location of its Thruway bus stop in the St. Petersburg, Florida, region.

The stop is now located at 12759 34th Street North in Clearwater.
