New Operator Coming to Thruway Route

Starting July 5, Amtrak Thruway service between Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe will be operated by El Dorado Transit.

The daily bus service will add a new stop at Cameron Park/Cambridge Road. It will continue to serve Placerville, the South Lake Tahoe Y and the Stateline Transit Centers. The Stateline Kingsbury stop is being discontinued.

Passengers should look for a Capitol Corridor and Amtrak logo on the side of the El Dorado Transit bus.

Thruway Service Expands in Oregon

Amtrak has begun start selling Interline Thruway Service in Oregon from Eugene to Florence and Eugene to Oakridge.

The buses are operated by Pacific Crest Lines.

Buses 8191, 8192, 8193, 8194, 8195 and 8196 will offer service between Eugene and Oakridge, with an intermediate stop at Westfir.

Buses 8612, 8613, 8614 and 8615 will offer service between Eugene and Florence, with intermediate stops at Veneta, Mapleton and Florence (Three Rivers Casino).

Flagstaff-Williams Thruway Bus Route Reinstated

Amtrak Thruway bus service has resumed between Flagstaff and Williams, Arizona.

In a service advisory, Amtrak said the service, which is provided by Route 66 Express, is timed to connect with Amtrak’s Southwest Chief stops at Flagstaff.

Passengers will be able to self-transfer to allow through booking to the Grand Canyon Railway train excursion out to Grand Canyon National Park from Williams to Grand Canyon station.

Bus Schedules Change in North Carolina; Buses Replace Trains to Atlantic City

Eastern North Carolina Thruway Service changed on Oct. 20 at certain cities with the changes in effect through Aug. 20, 2021.

In a service advisory, Amtrak said buses 6089 and 6090 are suspended while Buses 6189 and 6190 are canceled on Tuesdays.

Bus service is suspended at Goldsboro, Kinston, Havelock, Morehead City and Swansboro.

Bus service will continue at Wilmington, Jacksonville, New Bern, Greenville and Wilson.

In an unrelated development New Jersey Transit will substitute buses for trains on weekends between Philadelaphia (30th Street Station) and Atlantic City, New Jersey.

The bus substitutions will continue through Dec. 18 due to work on the Delair Bridge. The work will affect rail service between 4 a.m. on Saturdays and 6:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Passengers boarding at 30th Street station will board the bus on JFK Boulevard across from the station’s 30th Street entrance. The bus will depart at the scheduled train time.

Those traveling on a bus to 30th Street Station will disembark on  the driveway on the 30th Street side of the station right outside the doors.

Oregon Thruway Bus Changes Announced

October 1, 2020

Several service changed became effective Oct. 1 on Thruway bus service serving Amtrak’s Cascades Service trains in Oregon.

The changes all effect SouthWest POINT connecting service, Amtrak said in a service advisory.

Bus 8644 will operate between Klamath Falls and Medford Front Street Station but no longer stop at Selma or Gold Hill.

At Medford, passengers may connect to Josephine County Transit to reach Cave Junction for free by showing an Amtrak ticket.

Bus 8714 will operate between Cave Junction Inn and Brookings on Monday through Friday. The bus will no longer stop at White City.

Bus 8611 will operate between Brookings and Cave Junction Inn with service ending at Selma and Gold Hill.

Passengers may connect to Josephine County Transit to reach Medford for free by showing an Amtrak ticket.

Bus 8711 will operate between Medford Front Street Station and Klamath Falls but no longer stop at White City.

The Grant Pass bus stop has moved to 500 N.W. 6th Street (Anne Basker Auditorium).

Thruway Route Returns to San Francisco

August 15, 2020

Amtrak Thruway bus service between San Francisco and Emeryville, California, has resumed although on a reduced schedule.

The buses connect in Emeryville with Amtrak’s San Joaquins, California Zephyr, Coast Starlight and some Capitol Corridor trains.

In a service advisory, Amtrak said the buses will only stop at the San Francisco Salesforce Plaza and Emeryville stations. Buses will not stop at the Oakland Jack London station.

Seating capacity is limited in order to maintain social distancing.

San Joaquin Thruway Bus Routes Changed

August 1, 2020

Amtrak has announced that effective Aug. 1 several changes will occur in the operation of three San Joaquin Thruway bus routes.

Route 12 will see certain service suspensions and changes.

Buses 3410 and 3415 are suspended and will no longer serve Victorville, Little Rock, Palmdale, Lancaster, Mojave and Tehachapi bus stops.

The Alvand Transportation Buses 5612 and 5619 will begin serving Tehachapi, Mojave, Barstow Train Station, Barstow Bus Stop, Las Vegas RTC Strip Terminal and Las Vegas Greyhound Bus Stop.

On Route 18, Buses 6703, 6704, 6710 and 6715 are suspended and will no longer serve Visalia and Goshen Junction bus stops

On Route 19, Buses 5410 and 5417 will no longer serve Hemet, Sun City/Menifee, Perris and Moreno Valley bus stops.

Buses 5402, 5412, 5415 and 5419 will no longer serve Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Palm Springs Airport and Cabazon bus stops.

Amtrak said alternate Pacific Surfliner train and bus service remains available to Coachella Valley stops and passengers are advised to check Amtrak.com for the latest availability.

Amtrak Selling Interline Tickets in Oregon

Amtrak  is now selling Interline Thruway tickets for service between Lincoln City and Tillamook in Oregon and the Amtrak stations in Salem and Portland.

Buses 8983, 8984, 8985, 8986, 8987 and 8988 will offer service between Lincoln City and Salem, with intermediate stops at Otis Rose Lodge Eastbound, Otis Rose Lodge Westbound, Grand Ronde Community Center, Grand Ronde Spirit Mountain Casino, Rickreall and Salem.

Buses 8989, 8990, 8991 and 8992 will offer service between Tillamook and Portland, with intermediate stops at Tillamook Transit Visitor Center, Banks, North Plains, Hillsboro, Portland Sunset Transit Station and Portland Union Station.

San Joaquin Thruway Route to Change

July 18, 2020

On Aug. 1, there will be changes made in the route of Amtrak San Joaquins Route 19 Thruway service.

Certain schedules and stops are being suspended although the Amtrak service advisory did not say for how long.

Buses 5410 and 5417 will no longer serve the Hemet, Sun City/Menifee, Perris and Moreno Valley bus stops.

Buses 5402, 5412, 5415 and 5419 will no longer serve Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Palm Springs Airport and Cabazon bus stops.

Alternate Pacific Surfliner train and bus service remains available to the above Coachella Valley stops. Passengers are advised to check Amtrak.com for the latest availability.

Amtrak Thruway to Serve New N.C. Transit Hub

July 15, 2020

A new transit hub being built in Jacksonville, North Carolina, will be served by Amtrak Thruway buses

The 15,000-square foot facility will also serve local public transportation buses and Greyhound.

The hub is under construction and being funded by $8.9 million in federal and state funds and $1.1 million in local funding.

It is being described as the city’s first building designed to house many public transportation services to be “heavily resistant” to hurricanes.

Jacksonville is located on a Thruway route that links with Amtrak’s Palmetto and Carolinian at Wilson, North Carolina.
