Notes:

The Southern Railway declined to join Amtrak. The Southern Crescent was operated by Amtrak between New York and Washington, D.C. All other trains operated by Penn Central north of Washington, D.C., were discontinued as through routes.

New York-Atlanta through cars via the Piedmont were discontinued with the coming of Amtrak.

Nos. 15 and 16 operated tri-weekly, leaving Salisbury on Monday, Thursday and Saturday, and leaving Asheville on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. The trains connected with the Piedmont at Salisbury.

Nos. 17 and 18 operated between New York and Bristol, Virginia. Operations over the Norfolk & Western were discontinued between Lynchburg and Bristol. Also ending with the coming of Amtrak was the New York-Washington segment.
