Amtrak Warns Heat May Hinder Operations

Amtrak issued a service advisory warning passengers traveling in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions that summer heat may cause delays.

The advisory said extreme heat can affect Amtrak operations by causing rail, bridge and catenary wires to expand.

The passenger carrier said it and its host railroads often impose speed restrictions during high heat conditions.

Amtrak said passengers holding reservations for travel on trains whose operations are adversely affected by weather conditions will typically be accommodated on trains with similar departure times or on another day.

Ticket change charges will be waived for passengers seeking to change their reservation during the modified schedule by calling our reservation center at 1-800-USA-RAIL

Train status is availble at and in the free mobile app. Updates on real-time service information is available on Twitter at @AmtrakNECAlerts for Northeast Corridor trains and @AmtrakAlerts for trains operating outside the Northeast Corridor.
