Fires Disrupting California Zephyr in Colorado

Amtrak’s California Zephyr has been subjected to service disruptions and detours through Wyoming in recent days due to its normal route via Grand Junction, Colorado, being shut down by a fire.

News reports indicated that the Grizzly Creek Fire was threatening a bridge 9 miles east of Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

The fire, which began on Monday, was reported to have been growing substantially on Thursday and had covered around 15,000 acres.

The fire has been burning on the east and northeast sides of Glenwood Canyo.

The fire has closed the former Denver & Rio Grande Western mainline as well as Interstate 70

Some runs of the Zephyr have been canceled during the past week.

Amtrak said No. 6 that was to depart Emeryville, California, on Saturday (Aug. 15) will is canceled and no alternative transportation is being provided.

No. 1105 that was to depart Chicago on Saturday was also canceled with no alternative transportation being provided.

Amtrak said on Twitter that No. 1105 that departed on Thursday has completed its detour and is operating 6 hours and 30 minutes late.
