Pacific NW High-Speed Project Seeks to Create Interest

Supporters of a high-speed rail line between Vancouver, British Columbia; and Eugene, Oregon, were trying to drum up support for the project this past weekend.

Cascadia Rail held a launch party in Vancouver. “What alternatives do we have when our region is expected to grow 30 percent in the coming years? What ways can we help people get around that are more green?” said Paige Malott of the group.

Cascade Rail has proposed building the $42 billion line, which it said would draw 2 million passengers annually by 2035.

The line would serve Seattle and Portland, Oregon, and roughly follow the path of Amtrak’s Cascades Service.
