CUS Burlington Room Renovation Nearly Done

Work to restore the Burlington Room at Chicago Union Station has nearly been completed.

Chicago Union StationLocated in the northwest corner of the 91-year-old Great Hall, the Burlington Room has suffered years of neglect and water damage during the time that Amtrak used it as a storage space.

Work began last February to restore the room. Chicago-based architecture firm Goettsch Partners oversaw the restoration, which included cleaning up three original wallpaper murals and the re-hanging of chandeliers that were discovered in wooden crates in the station’s basement.

The north side of the room also features an original mirror as well as a stone banister.

Visitors to the room will notice color-changing lights, a hotel-quality ventilation system, and the ability to mount black iron pipes from the ceiling for special events.

One expected use for the room will be the hosting of private events.
