Amtrak Seeks RFPs for Chicago Union Station

Amtrak is now seeking detailed bids from prospective vendors as part of its project to develop Chicago Union Station and for use of the air rights over adjacent property.

Chicago Union StationThe request was sent to four teams that Amtrak put on a short list in September: Sterling Bay, John Buck, Walsh Construction, Studio Gang, and Skidmore Owings & Merrill.

Amtrak said that the RFP “seeks to gain an understanding of how each of the four firms would redevelop the Chicago Union Station complex.”

The passenger carrier has indicated that it wants to a decision this spring.

Landmarks Illinois’ Real Estate and Building Industries Council has awarded Amtrak an historic preservation award for work already completed at Union Station, which included restoring the stairs used in the baby-carriage scene in the movie The Untouchables.
