Shelby Amtrak Platform to be Extended

The Federal Railroad Administration has awarded $953,954 to be used in part to renovate the Amtrak station in Shelby, Montana.

Amtrak 4The project involves rebuilding two pedestrian and motor vehicle crossings in Shelby, which will include extending the existing Amtrak platform.

Amtrak’s Chicago-Seattle/Portland Empire Builder stops in Shelby twice a day, using BNSF tracks that also host 45 to 50 freight trains per day.

Local officials said that in the past 20 years there have been six fatalities due to at grade crossing in Shelby.
