Amtrak to Stop CONO in Marks, Mississippi

Amtrak is planning to establish a stop for the City of New Orleans in Marks, Mississippi.

Marks officials began seeking an Amtrak stop in August of 1995 after the station in Batesville was closed and Nos. 58 and 59 were rerouted through Marks.

Quitman County officials say the stop will provide an essential transportation service for about 200,000 residents living in nine surrounding counties.

Mark has a population of 1,550 people and is located about midway between Memphis, Tennessee, and Greenwood, Mississippi.
