Empire Builder, River Runners Being Delayed

Temporary speed restrictions imposed by BNSF Railway has led to the Chicago-Seattle/Portland Empire Builder seeing delays of two or more hours while operating in North Dakota and Montana.

The speed restrictions were imposed due to track work. Amtrak said it expects the delays to continue until construction ends later this month.

“[The] Empire Builder trains westbound from Chicago to Fargo, N.D., via St. Paul, and Empire Builder trains eastbound from Seattle and Portland to Shelby, Mont., via Spokane,” are largely unaffected by these delays, said Amtrak in a statement.

Amtrak also reported that bridge construction being performed by Union Pacific will result ion delays to the St. Louis-Kansas City Missouri River Runner of up to 30 minutes between Nov. 2 and Nov. 20.
